International prostitution and trafficking of Asian women and children is increasing. Worldwide 700,000 to four million women and one million children are trafficked into the sex industry every year. It is the third largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world and one of the most urgent human rights issues today. 

As YWAM Darwin we have created Charis Cards to stand up and do something about it. We aid Youth With A Mission Thailand, and Rahab Ministries Thailand by selling cards and jewelery made by woman in Thailand at the local markets here in Darwin. YWAM Thailand has two ministries set up to aid woman in desperate situations - Hope Cards ministering to woman in the slums of Bangkok and Tamar ministering to woman in the prostitution industry in Pattaya. Rahab Ministries ministers to woman in the sex industry in Bangkok. By making the cards and jewelry the woman are given a way out of the bondage and slavery of poverty and of their 'debts' that they owe the bars. It is estimates that the number of prostitutes working in Thailand ranges from 300,000 to 2.8 million. 

Charis Cards is increasingly involved in addressing these issues and fighting to combat the sex slave and prostitution industries in Asia. We help financially by selling the cards and jewelry here in Darwin, we create awareness about the issues facing woman in Asia and we send female outreach teams into Asia to be light in the darkness to these woman.

BACKPACKERS 

Did you know that in 2004, 205,000 backpackers visited Darwin and that Darwin is one of the backpacker capitals of the world? Backpackers find their way to Darwin each year, and we feel compelled to share the love of Christ with them. The majority of backpackers that come through Darwin are young people who are spiritual seekers seaching for more in life. We feel called to ministring to this sub-culture and hope to see many of these young people come to know God.
