Taking 14 year 10 students, along with 4 local youth leaders, parents & staff to come under 'YWAM Mission Adventures' for 10 days was a highlight for all involved.
I was impressed with the ease of engagement that the YWAM team had with the students, the appropriateness and sensitivity of the lifestyle, teaching, worship and training experiences of the first 5 days. In the second phase, the outreach to the Indigenous groups at Elcho Island and Belyuen was again so commendable in terms of the respect and flexibility of the teams, in order to really serve and come alongside those that we visited. The Indigenous leaders were listened to and we were able to respond as they requested. This was due to the excellent dialogue that the YWAM base had already established prior to our visit. It meant our teams could enjoy the favor of the people, learning and receiving from them. New perspectives were experienced, as well as the practice of drawing closer to God in those experiences. The students were encouraged to more accurately have God's heart in terms of how they regarded themselves, the teams and others. They experienced new and challenging ways to express kindness and to enjoy teamwork! Some students are still connected to the people they visited and are planning to return, such was their enjoyment and challenge of been taken outside their normal spheres of activity. Their growing love of God has found new ways of being expressed! I highly commend YWAM Mission Adventures ( Darwin) for any school group that wishes to engage their students more in their growing faith and love for God, and facilitating the demonstration of that love to others. Cultural paradigms are crossed, and students can enjoy life alongside others they may normally never meet. Something is able to be deposited in their hearts and minds to help shape their future choices and faith. Next year, all of our Year 10 students will be offered the opportunity to join a team, within the Work Experience time frame. The Mission trip is already being anticipated by Yr 9 Students! “Miracles Still Happen” It’s been a really exciting seeing almost 100 young people come through mission adventures this year, gaining a heart for the things God cares about and being sent out to share the love God has for people. Mission adventures gives young people an opportunity where they can explore more of who God is, learn more about themselves and others and get to know God’s heart, to then go out with a passion and zeal for God and as a team serve the communities they visit with the goal of loving others the way Jesus would. About a month ago, mid-July, we had just finished two back-to-back mission adventure programs where we saw incredible things happen in the teams that came. Things like: · A hill tribe in Thailand now considering who God is and exploring more of who he is because a Mission Adeventures team went and spoke about who God is and what He has done in their lives. · A local Mission Adventures team in Darwin going out to the Aboriginal community they went to on outreach once a fortnight after the program to connect with the youth there, and encouraging them and going out because of the relationships they formed while on outreach. · A Mission Adventures team trusting God to heal a man who was deaf in an Aboriginal community they were hosted at for outreach. If you would like to come and do a Mission Adventures program with us, the next dates are 14th -24th January 2008. We would love to have you come. Email us at
