Hi,

I read a book recently by Max Lucado "It's not about me, live like you mean it."
I found it very challenging! How that everything I do is God and for God. Yes I understand God deserves our praise and thanks, but I just don't get it if I do an exam that's God doing that and not me but don't I do all the study and then sit the exam? Also, (don't judge me) but I feel that if God was human he would be considered selfish...because it's all about him, he created us for himself, he created us in his image, God gets all the glory no matter what it is. This has been my biggest challenge! Until I work this one out I'm going to find it hard to follow God,
pray and read the Bible. I guess I need some answers, advice and other people's opinions!
But most of all your prayers!

Hey Janae!

This sounds like an interesting discussion. Only problem is, I don't quite know how to explain what I think.

Maybe I'll start off with your exam thing? I reckon it's more like it's true that we make a difference in that, if we don't sit the exam or study we're not going to do all that well, so in that sense it's us who do things. But thinking a bit deeper, it's God who gave us the ability to study and sit exams to start off with, and even gave us the ability to breathe. Without him we wouldn't even exist to take that exam, so in the bigger picture, it is all God after all.

And for feeling as if God is selfish, I totally understand. I sometimes feel the same, everyone has doubts at times. But mostly what helps me is putting it into better perspective. A super scaled down comparison would be a party. So usually one person organises a party, right? In some places the birthday guy or girl organises their own party, in other places friends or family do, but that doesn't really matter for our comparison. So, we've got the one person (lets call him Fred) organising a party. He takes ages and puts so much effort into it, for about 8 months he's organising this party, staying up late making sure everything is perfect. Then the big day finally rolls around, he's been prepping for months, and the party is AWESOME!!!! It's the best party EVER. So what does everyone at the party do? Everyone knows this guy was working so hard organising it. So it's perfectly reasonable that they'd go tell Fred how good a job he did and say "thanks for all the work, this party is awesome!"
I reckon in a bigger (much bigger) way, that's what God's about. He organised this whole big thing called life, so it's only deserving that He'd get the credit for it. It's not a perfect analogy, but I think it shows the point ok.

So that's all I have right now, I totally think the best way to find out answers to anything is to ask God yourself, He'll tell you. He's not some big snob in the sky, He wants to talk to us, so if you ask Him questions and you really mean what you're saying, He's gonna talk to you and let you know what's really going on.

I hope that helped you even a little bit :)

Heather
