The Darwin office of Australian Relief & Mercy Services began operation in early 1999. These first projects involved support of ministry in East Timor and over recent years ARMS in Darwin has also developed the additional focus of supporting ministry locations in West Timor and Bali in Indonesia, and more recently Thailand.

Many church and outreach teams travel through Darwin as they go to volunteer their skills in East Timor during short term visits. ARMS Darwin has often been able to assist and facilitate this process, and also frequently provides assistance with transfer and shipping of donated items for educational, health care and community development projects. Child sponsorship is a great opportunity to become involved by helping to assist with the needs of an individual child within one of the ARMS projects.

Kid´s Ark
Kid´s Ark provides pre-school education in East Timor for 45 children who will each benefit considerably through regular attendance and participation in this program. Sponsorship of AUD $25.00 per month assists these young children from very needy circumstances, giving them a head start with their education, also providing a school uniform and a nutritious meal and snack each day.
A similar child sponsorship project in Bali (AUD $32.00) provides for education, health care and accommodation for 25 school age children.

House of Grace Foundation.
Thailand is our newest location and we are working with the House of Grace Foundation. They have 8 boys who live there and they are all provided for through the generosity of supporters.

ARMS is appreciative of the many companies and individuals who consider making donations to assist projects overseas.
Over the past months there have been quite a few substantial donations including two vehicles, six water tanks, a refrigerator and stove, tools and equipment as well as clothing, toys, books and household items.
ARMS cards are available by donation as a fundraiser for our office in Darwin. Please consider getting some for yourself or your church or community group.

A ten dollar donation will give you five cards, individual cards are also available at $2.50 each (plus postage).
Kid´s Ark also began running a mobile preschool at a nearby outlying village location. Over the past few years this village has built a health clinic and also finished a classroom for the preschool program. ARMS Darwin is continuing to fundraise for educational toys for each of these Kid´s Ark preschools.
Buying your toys for Birthday or Christmas gifts from either the Chalk or Kangaroo Trading catalogues, (available from our Darwin office or over the internet) gives ARMS credit vouchers to the value of 20% of your order, which can then be used to purchase toys for these preschool children in East Timor. Children’s Home Vehicle
You may remember the VW Combi van that was donated to the Children’s Home ministry in Bali in 2004.  

In 2004 a vehicle was bought through the generosity of some kind donors. It has been used for the work of the Children’s Home; transporting the children around their local area and also over to some of the neighbouring islands for King’s Kids ministry, as well as taking street children on excursions and many other trips, which were otherwise expensive and time consuming for such a large group to be using local transport.

They were recently involved in an accident with the van. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, however, considerable damage was done to the vehicle and repairs will cost around $2500 AUD.

Child Sponsorship in Bali
Jen was recently in Singapore for a conference and was able to catch up with Tina, who runs the Children’s Home in Bali. Tina was able to give us updates on all of the children and we are happy to hear that they are progressing well.

The number of children living at the home has now grown to 25. Out of these 25 children, six have sponsorship which provides them with accommodation, food, clothing, education and healthcare. Cost of sponsorship is $32 per child each month.
